The aesthetic goal for the phased facility modernization program was to provide a neighborhood-school approach built for energy efficiency and expansion plan. The buildings adopt exterior brick colors, a blended range, and a masonry wall layering approach complementing the school’s spirit colors. The composition of brick types selected has notable characteristics that add a variety of color, texture, and delight and provide a sense of permanence.
Both school designs feature a combination of modular brick in traditional Commodore Clear Velour, 661 Velour, and accents of school colors – black and gold – with Metallic Black Coarse Velour, Black Diamond Velour, and a custom Yellow Glaze. The exterior brick was a priority to the district as a choice building material. It was determined to be a Locally Funded Initiative (LFI) in the bond issue to the community. The district wanted a durable material that would lower the long-term maintenance costs, and school officials desired the classic appearance of brick.
